Privacy Policy

DeshFeed is a news, questions and local business app for Indians living in the United States. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.
What we collect
- Your account. Email address and the username you choose. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us.
- Your approximate location. Only if you grant permission, and only to work out which US state you are in so we can filter content to it. We store the state, not your coordinates. You can decline and pick a state manually instead.
- What you post. Questions, comments, business listings and any photos you upload.
- Reports you file. Kept so moderators can act on them, and to keep a record of decisions.
We do not use advertising trackers, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
Who else processes it
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, file storage and server functions. Data is stored in the United States.
- Anthropic — when you post a question, its text is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to draft an answer, and to screen submissions for abuse. Your email and identity are not sent.
AI-drafted answers are general information, not legal, tax or immigration advice. Always confirm anything affecting your own case with a licensed professional.
Why we are allowed to hold it
We process your account details to give you an account, your posts to show them to the community you posted them to, and your location to filter content you asked to be filtered. Where the law requires consent — location in particular — we ask, and you can say no.
How long we keep it
Your account and content stay until you delete them. Delete your account and we remove your profile, questions, comments, listings and uploaded photos. Reports you filed are kept as a moderation record but are stripped of anything identifying you.
Deleting your account
In the app: Account settings → Delete my account. That removes everything described above, immediately and permanently. If you cannot reach the app, see our deletion page or email us.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. If you are in California, the CCPA gives you the right to know, delete, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. Email team@deshfeed.us and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
DeshFeed is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google Cloud. Access to production data is limited to the people who operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell affected users promptly if a breach ever puts their data at risk.
Changes
If we change this policy materially we will update the date above and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
